Erin Devine
My work as a designer has always been inspired by nature, especially the ocean. Its constant
motion, shifts, and transformations, while remaining grounded, mirror how I approach design. I explore movement, depth, and change, while anchoring my work in clarity and purpose. Whether I’m designing for UX, branding, packaging, or web, I carry through an ocean-inspired style that uses organic shapes, curved lines, and calm color palettes to capture both the peacefulness and strength of the natural world. My work continues to evolve but remains unified by a clear sense of direction.
Art and design have been important to my life from the beginning, woven into my family’s
history and encouraged by my mother, who is also a designer. I draw inspiration from travel
posters, surfwear brands, and the experiences I’ve had while exploring new places. Travel
creates fresh ideas and helps me move past creative blocks, allowing me to bring my love for the ocean and global perspective into my work. For example, in my Devine Surf Co branding project, I incorporated fluid wave forms and deep ocean tones to reflect a balance of adventure and calm. Through my designs, I invite viewers to reflect on their own relationship with nature and to notice how design influences the world around them.
As a designer, I aim to create work that is both purposeful and ethical. I choose clients and
projects whose missions align with my values of environmental and social responsibility. These
beliefs shape my subject matter, color palettes, and narratives, ensuring my work contributes
positively to its audience and context. To me, design is both an action and a reaction. It's an
action when anticipating future needs, and a reaction when solving problems in the present. In this exhibition, I showcase not only my versatility across disciplines but also a consistent voice rooted in exploration, balance, and respect for the natural world.
