Alexis Kagan

B.F.A.Painting

In my recent work, I have been focusing heavily on storytelling. My goal is to create visually and narratively compelling art that shows bits and pieces of an overarching story without explicitly spelling it out or explaining it in writing. I have always felt that my thoughts and feelings cannot be fully expressed in a written or verbal manner, especially on more complex ideas. Instead, I use my art as a vessel to communicate. Visual works can break boundaries, allowing anyone of any background to get the same (or similar) ideas without fear of them being lost in translation.

Throughout my work, I aim to touch on themes based on my own (as well as other people's) experiences as a woman and/or being raised female, the self, loss, and religion. To make my pieces feel simultaneously unique and familiar, I borrow elements and visuals from many different artists, historical sources, and well-known mythological and Biblical stories, avoiding directly "dating" them by mixing and matching different decades and eras together into one piece. My main method of creating work is digital, but I have also expanded into more traditional mediums.

My aim is to create art that transcends barriers and can be enjoyed and analyzed by

anyone, regardless of their background. When viewed in the context of my portfolio,

these pieces help the viewer piece together a story that has been unfolding over the past

few years. I strive to create art that lingers in people's minds long after they've seen it in person. If even a small element of one of my works resonates with someone years later, I

consider it a testament to the lasting impact of my art.
