SYDNIE BJORK
Artist Statement
My work emphasizes the expressive power of color and brushwork, along with the overall form. Sometimes the whole process begins with a spontaneous approach, and I don't always make specific plans for the procedure. The abstraction, color, form, and emotion are essential aspects of my works. I want the colors to play with feelings and the figurative and abstract forms to evoke a particular intellect. I also work in the three-dimensional form, creating sculptures from glass; I often find inspiration through my paintings, sketches, the human figure, and other formal emphases. In the recent work, I worked with cast glass to create my abstract forms; they direct a mood and freeness, fluidity, organic and beautiful like the world surrounding us. I hope these abstract sculptures of free forms allow viewers to make their own associations with the pieces about the world we live in.
My goal is to create a conversation between the glassworks and the paintings through organic forms and other aesthetic connections. They hold very different dynamics from two different dimensions, and how parted the mediums are, yet share certain fluid elements to live in the same environment.
