about.
The 71st Senior Exhibition, Stargazers, reflects the featured artist's journey through college, showcasing the evolution of their work and creative growth. The exhibition explores themes of momentum, ambition, and hope, symbolized by stargazing—an act of looking toward the future with determination. Like stargazers charting their path, this collection embodies the artist's drive to reach new horizons and the vision guiding them forward. Stargazers celebrates both the culmination of their academic journey and the boundless possibilities ahead as these artists move into the next chapter of their lives.

Professor Kim
Jinchul Kim is a distinguished figurative painter and art professor at Salisbury University. His latest works investigate the phenomenology of language, highlighting the shared understanding we find despite dialectal differences. He frequently uses multilingual text and complex cinematic scenes with "ghosts of vision," which challenge straightforward interpretation. His art captures the transitional phase of college life through this deliberate blend, reflecting his daily observations.
Kim holds two MFAs, one from King Sejong University in Seoul and another from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He showcases his art globally, with exhibitions in Korea, Japan, France, Spain, and the U.S. He has twice been awarded the Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award, in 2006 and 2013.
As the head of the painting and drawing areas, Kim teaches the capstone Senior Exhibition, Painting, and Drawing classes. In 2008, he received the University System of Maryland's highest faculty honor, the Regents Faculty Awards for Excellence in Teaching, and the Salisbury University Distinguished Faculty Award in Teaching. In 2022 and 2023, the Fulton School of Liberal Arts honored him with the Fulton Faculty Award in Teaching and the Excellence in Mentoring Award, respectively.
