Artist Statement
As an artist, I harness the power of my paintings to explore profound cultural, social, and political issues that shape our world. Through my art, I aim to give voice to the complex narratives and challenges faced by diverse communities. My mixed-media creations bridge the past and present, blending traditional and modern techniques to weave stories that cross cultural boundaries and time periods. By integrating diverse cultural elements, I honor tradition while creating works that are innovative and reflective of the contemporary world.
Fabric is a central medium in my work, carrying deep cultural and traditional significance. Incorporating fabric into my paintings allows me to capture the rich textures of life, from intricate patterns of heritage to fabrics tied to personal and collective histories. This adds depth and tangibility to my art, making the messages more vivid. The fabric serves as a symbol of resilience and strength, and sometimes the barriers faced by communities. By combining it with other materials, I reflect on how traditional and modern ideas merge to shape our identities today. These elements become a canvas for exploring societal issues, such as inequality, justice, and culture's role in shaping our perceptions of self and others.
My ultimate goal is to inspire reflection, encouraging people to contemplate the world around them, reassess their values, and embrace new perspectives. Through the fusion of fabric, color, and form, I strive to tell stories that foster empathy and inspire positive change.
