Artist Statement
My exploration of traditional and new media delves into the subconscious and our perception of the world around us. I often investigate the mechanisms behind the appeal of perceptual challenges in art by using imagery that avoids descriptive senses. The abstract nature of my work allows both me, as the artist, and the viewer to reflect on the nuanced and often ambiguous emotions inherent in the human experience. I encourage viewers to reconsider the mundane and challenge their perceptions, including both objects in the real world and our own bodies, by presenting them in a way that disrupts their usual context or appearance.
Artists such as Bruce Nauman and Susan Rothenberg have influenced my approach to art, fostering a more personal relationship with the media and enabling a sometimes stark, unfiltered presentation of ideas. My work addresses subjects and phenomena that are often overlooked, presenting them in an exaggerated yet honest manner. This focus emphasizes the relationship between the object and the body, as well as the connection between the media and the artist.
