Hot Glass B.F.A.
Artist Statement
When I contemplate the significance of art making, I find it invaluable, as it provides me with a means to express emotions that I previously struggled to articulate verbally. My portfolio
encompasses abstract hot glass, metal manipulation, and oil paintings that capture pivotal moments from the past four years of my life. During this time, I encountered a lack of confidence and perspective, which inspired me to delve into my experiences and gain a deeper understanding of them.
My installation reflects my internal journey and is deeply personal and vulnerable. It is divided into four sections: three moments of clarity through diptychs and a painting. My metalwork symbolizes personal growth during times of low spirits, while glass pieces represent my decision to distance myself from unsupportive individuals and find joy in solitude. The central painting that inspired this exhibition portrays the highs and lows of my studio practices. The oil diptych expresses my deep gratitude for the apartment I've called home for over two years.
The primary influence for my show is Constantin Brancusi, a trailblazer in modern sculpture. This installation is profoundly personal and vulnerable, reflecting my internal journey. Engaging with my emotions in the studio creates a meditative state. Each medium offers a unique way to reflect; cast metal and glass pieces provide a sense of completion while working with steel, which helps me understand my physical and mental resilience. Working with oil painting is tranquil, allowing me to contemplate positivity and optimism in life.
Attending art school has been a transformative experience, shaping my life in ways I never thought possible. It has given me the strength, compassion, and knowledge to keep moving forward. Creating art in this therapeutic manner has been incredibly fulfilling for me. As an artist, I am committed to producing works that allow me to express my passions for years to come.
