Artist Statement
My experimentation of traditional and new media explores the subconscious, as well as how we perceive and interact with the world around us. Without using literal imagery, the abstracted nature of my work allows me as an artist, and the viewer to have time to consider the more nuanced and undetermined feelings of the human experience. I encourage viewers to reconsider the mundane, and challenge how they perceive it. This includes objects that exist in the real world, and our own bodies. Artists like Bruce Nauman and Susan Rothenberg have influenced the way I communicate through art, and how I can create a more personal relationship with the media, as well as enable an unfiltered, sometimes stark presentation of ideas. My work takes subject matter and phenomena that typically get overlooked and presents them in an overdramatized, thus more honest way. Concentrating on the relationship between the object and the body, and the media and the artist.
