Abreanna Albright
BFA Painting

My work explores the intersection of mental health, abstraction, and the raw emotions associated with the experience of insanity. Using acrylic paint and mixed media, I create pieces that reflect both the chaotic and fragile nature of the mind. Color plays a key role in my art, particularly hues that resonate with the emotional landscape of mental health. I use vivid, intense colors to symbolize different states of mind, creating a visual language that conveys the complexity and nuance of mental illness.

What motivates me to create is the power of music, particularly one artist who has deeply influenced my senior show. Their work serves as an emotional catalyst for my pieces, providing both rhythm and feeling that shape my brushstrokes and decisions. My creative process varies; at times, I start with a carefully curated mood board and sketches, while other times, I embrace a more spontaneous, free-flowing approach, throwing materials onto the canvas and seeing where it leads me. In both methods, I welcome the unpredictable nature of art-making, allowing each piece to evolve and express what words often cannot capture.
