Personal Profile
Identity and self-discovery have become a large part of my art. Every little bit of me has been made up by the people who have surrounded me, the things I have become attached to, the paths I have taken, and everything in between. However, I still can't quite figure out who I really am. Identity is an important part of my thought process, but it can feel incomplete when my memories have been burdened by white noise and tv static. My artwork has become an uncovering of memories, puzzle pieces of the people before me, and a representation of how I see myself at the moment. I don't just reflect on the people who physically created me but also on the people who are a part of my past/present life. My individual identity is not the only thing that makes me, and it is also the identity of others that have influenced me greatly. As much as I want to be able to tell amazing stories of me and my journey, the only thing I can really do is recreate me through what has already been documented and make it my own unique story.
The figure is crucial in my work. Being an individual is a primary inspiration for my concept. Interpersonal relationships play a large role in my life and identity, and the memory of them is extremely important to me. Capturing memory is my main focus, as keeping memories is something I struggle with. Visuals, colors, and composition also play a huge role in what I create and are really big inspirations for my next pieces. Some important things that inspire and branch off of my work include sexuality, femininity, and mental health. These things are tied to the "slice of life" work I create. I hope that viewers get a sense of familiarity when viewing my work, even though it is deeply personal to me.
