Personal Profile
I often find peace amongst animals and mythological beings, as they are symbolic guardians against the worldly struggles humans frequently and often endure. Each figure presents unique aspects combined with a sense of individuality. I utilize body language in my sculptures and explore expression through posture and gesture. Whether it be subtle or more intense, each movement and gesture is crafted to display intensity and hopefully initiate soulful introspection.
Over the years, it has become apparent that words are unnecessary when reading emotion. It can be clear to see another's underlying battles if observed closely. It is necessary to experience each sculpture individually to allow an internal confrontation between the sculpture and yourself. The creatures I design in this body of work represent and embody human emotions that have been stripped down to their purest form. Each sculpture brings pain, guilt, and struggle by manifesting the repercussions of repressed emotions often withheld, snuffed, or silenced. I utilize anthropomorphism to unify human emotions with dynamic fantasy animalistic forms to allow for an emotional connection as they contain human qualities and a sense of humanity. While my work may explore a range of ugly truths across the spectrum to the simplicity of joy, I aim to produce a new perspective and push the bounds of expressive emotion through the use of fantasy.
